Scenic Niagara River Linking Lake Erie and Lake Ontario
2 Lakes 1 River

Sailboats tacking through the breaks in the sea wall protecting the shores of eastern Lake Erie and Buffalo, NY. At the confluence of Lake Erie and the Niagara River, the great channel flows north where across the wide expanses are the shores of the United States and Canada. The endless torrent of water emanating from the upper Great Lakes continues on, cascading and eternally thundering over Niagara Falls. The lower Niagara River begins with the roaring whitewater at the base of the falls, eddies and whirlpools creating an unfriendly caldron, passing through 6 miles of canyon carved out by the river over a mere 12,000 years. Departing the canyon the white water dies out and waters stream twisting and turning more tranquilly through the historic towns on both sides of the river. And then another confluence where the river meets the deep blue of Lake Ontario. And from the mouth of the river on the southern shore of the lake, looking out over choppy seas, the towers of the grand city of the lake, Toronto, far across the waters on the north shore, rise majestically. Once again, decorating the seascape, sailboats.
