We decided on a low risk tour Saturday with everyone’s minds on the invasion of the Coronavirus. Our first stop was the Clarence Center Coffee Company & Cafe, which was surprisingly, well, not really surprising, very busy. We ordered 2 large Drunken Turtles: steamed milk, espresso, white chocolate, caramel, and hazelnut syrup, for the road. And off we went into the countryside, rolling through rural Erie and then rural Niagara County. Our second destination was a maple farm, but upon arrival were met with a sign that it doesn’t open for another week. So we’ll be back. We thought that might be the case, but had agreed that a drive through the country side would be a really nice break from the bombardment of negative news. We found our way to Route 31 and headed in the direction of Lockport, and stopped at the never to be missed Schwab’s Farm Market. There’s no fancy sign or fancy building for this place, but their baked goods are amazing. We got a package of pumpkin cookies and some maple cinnamon rolls, both which were fresh and delicious. Then we were off toward Lockport, and stopped for lunch at the Village Eatery, which specializes in Italian cuisine. Very good house wine, very good bread, Mary Lou ordered spaghetti and meatballs, I ordered manicotti with a side order of Italian sausage, and everything was very good, if perhaps a bit overpriced.
And that was our day. Never miss the chance to stop at Schwab’s Farm Market in Gasport, NY. And sometimes, you just need to get out and about and leave all the worries and fears behind.
